Knox's new Power of Experience grant is giving students opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom to hands-on, real-world experiences, from field archeology in Jordan to clinical shadowing in Uganda to a music internship in South Africa. Since last summer, 67 students have received up to $2,000 during their junior or senior year to support research or creative work, internships, community service, or off-campus study.
Yes, here we are again, talking about the steam tunnels. As you may remember from the summer 2019 issue (and spring 2017 issue), our aging steam pipes were losing upwards of 15,000 gallons of water a day, adding about $200,000 to Knox's utility bills each year. Knox began replacing the lines last summer, which has already resulted in a savings of 10,000 gallons a day. We'll see how much more we can save when the project is completed this summer.
Knox will no longer offer men's and women's tennis, starting with the 2020-21 academic year. Knox College Director of Athletics Daniella Irle said that while tennis is among the oldest sports at the College, the teams have the smallest rosters (six men and seven women) while there are significant costs associated with fielding a tennis program of high quality with competitive facilities. With the 2020-2021 season, Knox will sponsor 18 athletic teams: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and volleyball.

Yes, that is a fin whale at a small, landlocked college in Illinois. I think it needs a name. I suggest #abetheknoxwhale.
