Knox College will celebrate its 2014 Homecoming on October 10-12, welcoming about 1,000 alumni back to Galesburg for reunion dinners, a 5K walk/run, and other festivities.
Here's a quick look at five of the top things about this year's Knox Homecoming.
President Teresa Amott and other dignitaries will preside during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11 at the renovated and historic building. Afterward, feel free to take a look around the transformed Alumni Hall, which will house several of Knox's signature educational programs, along with the Offices of Admission and Alumni Relations.
The Prairie Fire, victorious in both of their home football games so far this season, take on Lake Forest at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 11 in the Knosher Bowl. Make sure to catch the halftime festivities, where 2014 Hall of Fame inductees Steve Baumgartner '77, Bill Graning '60, Kevin Megli '07, and Drew Sherman '00 will be recognized.
If you've been craving spinach bisque from the Landmark Café & Creperie, cinnamon rolls from The Packinghouse Dining Company, or other food you can find only in Galesburg, this event is the place to be. More than a dozen downtown Galesburg vendors will provide hors d'oeuvres at the all-class reception, which starts at 7 p.m. Friday, October 10 in T. Fleming Fieldhouse.
Homecoming weekend is a great time to catch up with good friends, former classmates, and favorite professors. There are plenty of opportunities, including Homecoming Convocation at 10 a.m. Saturday, the alumni and faculty book-signing at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, fraternity and sorority open houses, reunion dinners, and informal gatherings all around campus.
After all, October is National Squirrel Awareness Month, so take some time to appreciate the friendly bushy-tailed rodents on campus.
