Applications for Summer Program Knox College for Kids

48 elementary level courses in arts, humanities, mathematics and sciences

Applications are now being accepted for Knox College for Kids, a summer enrichment program that will offer 48 courses in art, music, theatre, dance, literature, writing, history, mathematics, science and languages, June 14-25. Courses are offered for students who will be entering first through ninth grades this fall.

Knox College for KidsKnox College for Kids will be held weekday mornings, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, from June 14 through June 25 on the Knox campus in Galesburg. Applications and a course catalog are available at local schools and libraries or from the Knox College for Kids website. Applications are due by May 17. Information is also available from Knox College for Kids Office at 309-341-7500.

The regular program for students entering grades three through nine offers 17 courses in art, music, theater and dance; 12 in history and social science; 14 in science, mathematics and technology; and five in languages. Students enroll in three hour-long classes.

A junior program, designed for students entering first or second grades in the fall, features three classes that cover literature and theater, dance and movement, and mathematics and science.

The fee for the regular or junior program is $115. Limited scholarship funds are available.

Knox College for Kids was created by Knox College in 1975 as a summer enrichment program for high-achieving grade school students. Classes are taught by Knox College faculty and master teachers from area schools. In addition, a number of Educational Studies students at Knox College have received REACH fellowships from the College to support their work as instructors and teaching assistants in this year's program.

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 47 states and 48 countries. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
