"Cloud 9," by Caryl Churchill

October 31 through November 3, directed by Kelly Lynn Hogan

The Knox College Department of Theatre and Dance presents "Cloud 9," by Caryl Churchill, at 7:30 p.m., October 31 through November 3, in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The show is intended for mature audiences. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and free for students, and are available at the door or in advance by calling 309 341-7329.

The play is directed by Kelly Lynn Hogan, visiting instructor in theatre. "'Cloud 9' begins as a period style farce in 19th-century Africa that turns into a contemporary realistic comedy in 20th-century Great Britain," Hogan says. "In the process of this transformation, it examines identity politics through its non-traditional casting and themes."

Hogan completed a bachelor's degree at Knox in 1992 with honors in theatre, and a master of arts in performance studies in 1995 at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She is an ensemble member of Chicago's Vitalist Theatre, for whom she has originated lead roles in the critically acclaimed 2005 production of "Anna Karenina," and the 2006 production of "Mother Courage and Her Children," which was selected as one of the top "Recommended" shows of the season by the Chicago Reader and recently honored at Gay Chicago Magazine's After Dark Awards. Among her directing credentials, she served last year as assistant director of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis' production of "The Heidi Chronicles."

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 44 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
