Knox College Announces Faculty Promotions

The Knox College Board of Trustees has awarded tenure and promotions to the rank of associate professor to Andrew Civettini in political science and Stephen Schroth in educational studies. In addition, Lynette Lombard was promoted to the rank of professor of art. The promotions, recommended to the Board by President Teresa Amott, were approved at the Trustees' meeting in June.

Andrew Civettini, Political Science

Since joining the Knox faculty in 2007, Civettini has taught courses in voting and elections, research methods, interest groups, and women and American politics. He also has served as coordinator of popular "Election 20xx!" class, taught every four years, and hosted election-night gatherings that have drawn hundreds of students.

Civettini's scholarship is in the area of political behavior, examining the role of emotional reactions and attitude formation within political campaigns. In addition to conference presentations, he has published articles on emotion, motivation and voting, and several chapters in political science anthologies. His campus service has included leadership of the Broadcast, Internet and Publications Committee, the Honorary Degree Committee, and the Institutional Research Board.

A graduate of Grinnell College, Civettini earned his M.A. and Ph.D at the University of Iowa.

Stephen Schroth, Educational Studies

Schroth joined the Knox faculty in 2006. He offers courses across the curriculum in educational studies, including teacher education and foundational studies. He has also taught courses that have been part of Knox's Peace Corps Preparatory program.

Schroth's scholarship explores gifted education, arts education, and the mentoring of minority teaching candidates. With his department colleagues, he has published a book, Planning Differential Instruction and Assessing Results, as well as single-authored and collaborative articles in a number of educational studies journals. His projects have been funded by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board and the Associated Colleges of Illinois. Schroth is co-director of Knox College for Kids, has advised several fraternities, and has served on the Knox College Honor Board, Honorary Degree Committee, Grievance Panel Task Force, and as Knox's representative to the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Schroth is a graduate of Macalester College, with a law degree from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in teaching from Teachers College at Columbia University, and a Ph.D. at the University of Virginia.

Lynette Lombard, Art

Since joining the faculty in 1990, Lombard has taught drawing, printmaking, and painting at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels. She and colleague Tony Gant developed the "Knox in New York" program, which combines study in art history and studio work with a two-week travel component to New York City.

Lombard is a landscape painter whose subjects range from Spain to the American Midwest. Her work is represented by two galleries in New York. Lombard's recent exhibitions include solo shows in Michigan, Connecticut, Spain, New Jersey, Illinois, and New York City, and she has participated in more than 25 group shows nationally. On campus, she has chaired the art department and served on a number of faculty committees, including the Faculty Personnel Committee and the Executive Committee.

Lombard has a B.A. from Goldsmith's College at the University of London and an M.F.A from Yale University.
