Lecture Looks at the '60s

Historian Konrad Hamilton will give a talk, "Fighting Over the Past: The 1960s as History," at 4 p.m., Friday, May 4, in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The event, the annual Burkhardt Lecture at Knox College, is free and open to the public.

Hamilton is associate professor of history and chair of the American Studies Program at Knox College. A member of the Knox faculty since 1995, he teaches American history and African-American history, and is currently team-teaching a course in Environmental Racism. His research interests also include the history of affirmative action policy.

Hamilton earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Oregon, a master's degree at the University of California-Santa Barbara, and a doctorate at Stanford University.

The Burkhardt Lecture is presented annually by the Knox College History Department. The Lectureship is funded by an endowment established by Richard W. Burkhardt, former president and professor at Ball State University, and Dorothy Johnson Burkhardt, retired professor of modern languages at Ball State. The Burkhardts are 1939 graduates of Knox College. Mrs. Burkhardt, a trustee of Knox College, received the "Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques" from the government of France in recognition of her promotion of cultural interchange between France and the U.S. The lectureship was established in memory of Richard W. Burkhardt's parents, Edgar and Ruth Burkhardt.
