Knox College's 26th Annual International Fair will feature food and entertainment from around the world, on Saturday, January 27, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. Also, this year, the Knox College International Club has expanded the fair to include a week-long series of lectures by Knox College faculty on international topics.
The event typically draws over 1,000 visitors to campus, to sample food prepared by students and view educational displays representing more than 50 nations and campus clubs.
The free, public international lectures by Knox faculty will be held at 4 p.m., from Monday, January 22 through Thursday, January 25, in the Round Room, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The topics and speakers are: January 22, "Africa," by Eric Edi, visiting assistant professor of Black Studies; January 23, "Invitation to an Execution: Global Reaction to the Hanging of Saddam Hussein," Robert Seibert, Murphy Professor of Political Science and co-director of the Center for Global Studies; January 24, "America and Russia: Building Bridges," Pavel Osinsky, visiting instructor in anthropology and sociology; January 25, "Diversity in Our Experience," members of the Knox College Committee on Campus Diversity.
This year's guest performer is Funkadesi, a dynamic musical ensemble that integrates East Indian music, including Hindi folk and classical, with reggae, funk, and Afro-Caribbean influences. Described as a "Band on the Verge" by Relix Magazine, Funkadesi won an "Award of Honor for Contribution to World Beat Music" at the 2005 Chicago Music Awards.
Tickets are $5 at the door for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens, and free for children under 6. A special group rate of $4 per person is available by calling Cathy Walters in the Knox College Office of Intercultural Life, 309 341 7230.
