International Fair 2010

A world-full of food and fun!

Knox College International FairFood and entertainment from around the world will take center stage at Knox College's annual International Fair, starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 30, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois.

The theme of this year's fair is "Knocking Down Stereotypes."

Tentative schedule for I-Fair 2010:

January 25 - Free, public lecture on stereotypes by Kelly Shaw, instructor in psychology and gender and women's studies. 4:30 p.m., Ferris Lounge, Seymour Union.

January 29, 6 p.m. - "Batsman Up!" - Free, public workshop on cricket by Tom Melville, author of "The Tented Field: A History of Cricket in America," in T. Fleming Fieldhouse.

January 30:

11 a.m.-1 p.m. - International buffet lunch, with food from around the world prepared by students. Seymour Union.

1-3 p.m. - Cultural and educational booths. Ford Center for the Fine Arts.

Knox College International Fair3-5 p.m. - Parade of flags and student talent show in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts.

7 p.m. - Guest performers: Funkadesi, in the Oak Room, Seymour Union.

International Fair tickets are $5 per person, free to children six and under., and are available at the door. A single ticket covers all the day's events. Group rates are available by contacting Cathy Walters, director of International Student Advisement, at 309 341-7230.

Tentative Buffet Lunch Menu:

  • Bulgaria- Phyllo Pastry with Cheese and Milk
  • Germany- Gyro dressing (Yogurt Cucumber Sauce), Minced Lamb Kebab, Spiced Hot Wine, Vegetarian "Minced Meat" Kebab
  • Japan- Five Ingredient Mixed Rice, Quick Pickled Cabbage, Sweet Bun with Bean Paste
  • Lo Nuestro - Pina Colada, Rice with Beans
  • Malaysia- Banana Dessert
  • Palestine- Date Balls, Palestinian Onion & Chicken Bread
  • Spain- Fried Plantains with Avocado, Mango Turnovers, Salsa, Caramel Custard, Chicken Turnovers and Sangria
  • Students Without Borders- Green Spaghetti, Stuffed Potatoes

International FairKnox's International Fair is celebrating its 29th year in 2010. The fair is sponsored by the Knox College International Club, one of the largest student organizations on campus.

Knox College operates its own study-abroad programs in France, Spain and Argentina, and offers more than 20 other academic programs in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.
