International Fair 2010 Photos

The Parade of Flags at the 29th annual International Fair on January 30 featured banners from many of the nearly 50 countries represented on the Knox campus. "One of the nation's top 20 colleges for international diversity and among the top 60 for campus diversity..."

Enthusiasm is high as students assemble for the Parade of Flags.

Cultural booths expressed the 2010 Fair's theme: "Breaking Down Stereotypes." Here, the booth manned by ABLE -- Allied Blacks for Liberty and Equality: "We are not the corner of campus where all the Black kids are... Our organization does not exclude any member on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation... We are more than an organization. We are a movement of allied students."

The international buffet lunch always draws a full house. A local newspaper called it "a United Nations selection of food... from flan, a type of Spanish custard, to asazuke, Japanese pickled cabbage to musakhkhan, Palestinian onion and chicken bread..."

Students prepared all the food for the international lunch.

The international student talent show offered entertainment from the Japan Club...

...to a student funk group that now has a name:

"The International Band of Mystery"

Among the week's activities leading up to the Fair, a workshop on cricket. "The world's second most popular sport..." according to Wikipedia. You'll get no argument on that point from batsman Ahmad Aziz and the eleven others at the workshop.

This year's guest artists: the Chicago-based group Funkadesi.
