Knox Day of Dialogue Continues Annual Tradition of Creating Meaningful Conversations

Knox College students from around the world will highlight diverse food, culture, and entertainment as part of the 38th annual International Fair, which has the theme of "Art in Culture: Show Us Your Colors."
The traditional cultural showcase, booths, and international buffet will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2019, on the Knox campus. The Saturday events, which are open to the public, include:
12:00 to 1:30 p.m.
Ford Center for Fine Arts lobby
Fun and educational, the cultural exhibits are organized by Knox students and student organizations. Admission is free.
1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Ford Center for Fine Arts, Kresge Recital Hall
Students will enter Kresge Recital Hall carrying flags that represent the student body at Knox. Following the flag parade, performances will include songs, dances, poetry readings, and more, from cultures around the world. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free.
5 to 8 p.m.
Seymour Union
Foods from different countries and cultures are prepared and served by students. Price is $9 (free for kids 5 and under). Students with a meal plan can use a meal swipe. After paying, everyone will receive a wristband, which is required for entrance to the Food Fair.
Pre-purchase Wristbands for the Food Fair: Wristbands to the Food Fair may be bought online in advance through the evening of Thursday, January 31, at www.knoxalumni.org/IFair. Individuals who pre-purchase wristbands should bring a copy of their receipt (printed or on a mobile device) and exchange the receipt for wristbands at the International Club table during the Booths Fair or during intermission of the Cultural Showcase on Saturday, February 2.
Purchasing Wristbands at International Fair: Wristbands to the Food Fair will also be on sale (cash only) at the International Club table during the Booths Fair and during intermission of the Cultural Showcase, and at the door of the Food Fair.

A series of events for students will take place on campus throughout the week leading up to I-Fair on February 2. These include:
Monday, January 28—Traditional Outfit Day
Students will wear clothing that demonstrates their cultural identity throughout the day and gather for photos from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Petrovich Atrium of Alumni Hall.
Tuesday, January 29—Kala Pola
aaina will host Kala Pola in Wilson House from 6 to 8 p.m. Kala Pola is Sri Lanka’s Annual Art Fair which broadcasts various cultural, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic issues in Sri Lanka through art. Join aaina to make and share art that expresses your unique culture and creativity!
Wednesday, January 30—Night Fair: International Crafts
Come join us from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Taylor Lounge to learn about and make crafts in different cultures from around the world and receive lucky envelopes to celebrate Lunar New Year! The event is presented in collaboration with aaina, A.B.L.E, ASA, Chinese Club, Japanese Club, Korean Club, Lo Nuestro, and M.E.Ch.A.
Thursday, January 31—World Hijab Day
In conjunction with World Hijab Day on February 1, 2019, Islamic Club invites non-hijabi Muslim and non-Muslim women to experience wearing a hijab. Islamic Club will hold an Information Session about World Hijab Day on Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Lincoln Room. Hijabs will be provided and how to wear a hijab will also be taught. All are welcome to attend the Information Session.
Friday, February 1—Hijab Day Debrief
Hosted by Islamic Club, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Lincoln Room. Share your perspective about how you felt after wearing or seeing someone wear a hijab.
