Kimberlé Crenshaw, executive director of the African American Policy Forum and professor of law at the University of California - Los Angeles and Columbia University Law School, will give a lecture, "Intersectionality," at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Crenshaw is the founding coordinator of the Critical Race Theory Workshop and the co-editor of the book Critical Race Theory: Key Documents That Shaped the Movement. She has lectured nationally and internationally on "intersectionality," a concept she developed to capture the multidimensional dynamics of racial discrimination.
Crenshaw co-founded the African American Policy Forum in 1996 to highlight gender and structural inequality in racial justice. She has written for Ms. Magazine, the Nation and other publications, and is a regular commentator on The Tavis Smiley Show, NPR, and MSNBC.
The lecture is sponsored by the Student Senate Diversity Committee, Office of the President, Dean of the College, Dean of Students, Cultural Events Committee, and the Janet Greig Post Fund.
