Knox College will celebrate Martin Luther King Day with a convocation on Monday, January 15. Konrad Hamilton, associate professor of history and chair of the American Studies Program at Knox, will deliver the convocation address, "Martin Luther King: On Fear and Freedom," at 11 a.m., Monday, January 15, in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The Umoja Gospel Choir, directed by Jessie Dixon, associate professor of modern languages, will perform.
The convocation is free and open to the public.
Hamilton has taught at Knox since 1995. His research interests include African-American history and the history of affirmative action policy.
Also on January 15, Knox will hold an open house. Events will include campus tours and selected classes; conferences with faculty, students, coaches and admission representatives; and information sessions on academic programs, internship opportunities, student life, and off-campus study. Open house events are free for prospective students and their families. Registration is available from the Knox College Office of Admission, 309 341 7100.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 46 states and 50 nations. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
