King Day Convocation 2012

Knox College will present its annual Martin Luther King Day Convocation at 11 a.m., Monday, January 16, in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The convocation is free and open to the public.

Konrad Hamilton, associate professor of history and chair of the program in American Studies (right), will give the convocation address.

Two speakers will read from their own poems -- Fred Hord, professor and chair of program in Black Studies; and Monica Prince, a senior from Lakewood, Colorado. Laura Lane, professor of music, will conduct the Knox College Choir. The convocation will be moderated by Magali Roy-Fequeire, associate professor of Gender and Women's Studies.

King, a civil rights leader, minister and president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was assassinated in 1968. January 15 is the anniversary of King's birthday, and the national holiday is celebrated on the third Monday in January.

A member of the Knox faculty since 1995, Hamilton earned his doctorate in history at Stanford University, where he worked as part of a team of scholars who edited The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr.
