The Adelphi-Gnouthautii chapter of Mortar Board was among the outstanding chapters honored at the 2015 Mortar Board National Conference. The Knox College chapter was recognized with the Silver Torch Award.
"The Silver Torch Award is given to chapters who have exhibited exemplary chapter operations and service to the alma mater," said Ellen Fischer '16, president of Mortar Board. Other criteria for the award include promoting scholarship and leadership.
This is the second consecutive year that the Adelphi-Gnouthautii chapter received the Silver Torch Award. The chapter sponsors an annual Kid's Carnival that includes Knox clubs and organizations and brings local families to the Knox campus to participate in literacy activities.
Founded in 1918, Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Knox College's Mortar Board chapter, Adelphi-Gnouthautii, was founded in 1920 and is the 10th oldest chapter in the nation.
"This year, we're striving for the Golden Torch Award," said Fischer. In her time remaining as chapter president, she hopes to amplify Mortar Board's presence on campus through engagement with other organizations.
