The Knox College Choir has arrived in New York City, New York, as part of its 2013 tour and is making final preparations for a concert on Monday, March 25 in world-renowned Carnegie Hall.
After returning to Galesburg, the Choir will present two performances, one on Thursday, March 28 and the other on April 20. The 52-voice Knox College Choir is directed by Laura Lane, professor of music and director of choral activities at Knox.
The Home Tour Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28 in Kresge Recital Hall on the Knox College campus. The Choir will perform the Haydn Lord Nelson Mass -- the same work it is performing at Carnegie Hall -- at 7:30 p.m. April 20 in Central Congregational Church in Galesburg. For the Lord Nelson Mass, the Knox College Choir will team up with the Galesburg Community Choir, the Monmouth College Chorale, and professional soloists and members of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony.
At Carnegie Hall, the Choir is performing the Haydn Lord Nelson Mass with the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and other ensembles, including singers from Monmouth College, the Galesburg Community Chorus, singers from St. Ambrose University, and the Wicker Park Choral Singers. The Carnegie Hall concert is presented by Manhattan Concert Productions.
Choir members are posting photos, video, and descriptions of the tour on a blog, Do Ti La So Fa(r) We Go!
Earlier this week, the Choir performed a separate a cappella program in St. Joseph's Church Yorkville in New York City (photo above) and later described the experience in the blog.
"The concert had great energy and our audience was fantastic! The acoustics were so great, especially for the Renaissance pieces and the pieces that ring a lot," according to the blog post, written by choir member Laurel Tippe.
