The Knox College Choir, directed by Laura Lane, presents its Fall Concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program showcases the 50-voice choir in a virtuosic choral movement, Bach's "Christ lag in Todesbanden."
"This work is challenging to perform and exciting to hear," said Lane, professor of music and director of choral activities at Knox. "With our accompanist Casey Dierlam playing the part of the orchestra on the piano, the chorus sings a beautiful and expressive elaboration on each phrase, then at the end explodes into a thrilling Hallelujah."
Concert selections will span the musical eras and genres, from the 1500s to traditional folk songs, works by young composers and a vocal jazz arrangement of the Beatles' "Penny Lane." Featured soloists include soprano Emma Frey and cellist Carolyn Suda.
The Knox College Choir tours every year, with a European tour every three years. The choir has performed regularly in Barcelona and the Catalán region of Spain, with other concert tours to England, Austria, Czech Republic, Washington, D.C., Memphis, Nashville, and New Orleans. In 2005 and 2013, the Choir performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
