Applications are now being accepted for Knox College for Kids, a summer enrichment program that will offer more than 40 courses in art, music, theatre, dance, literature, writing, history, mathematics, science and languages, June 17-28, on the Knox College campus in Galesburg.

Courses are offered for students who will be entering third through ninth grades this fall. A separate junior program is designed for students entering first or second grades in the fall. Applications are due by May 17.

Tuition is $115. A limited number of scholarships is available for students who receive free or reduced school lunches, thanks to a gift from Wells Fargo.

Applications, scholarship information and course catalogs are available at local schools and libraries or from the Knox College website at http://www.knox.edu/college4kids. Information is also available from Knox College for Kids Office at 309-341-7500.

Students enroll in three hour-long classes, held weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 pm. The regular program offers 18 courses in art, music, theater and dance; 10 in the humanities and social sciences; 17 in science, mathematics and technology; and three in languages. The junior program features three classes that cover literature and the arts, movement, and mathematics.

"The courses in Knox College for Kids are taught by Knox College faculty and master teachers from our area, and are aligned with the best practices for gifted education," said Jason Helfer, associate professor of education at Knox. Helfer and Stephen Schroth, assistant professor of education, co-direct the summer program that Knox founded in 1975. Knox College students serve as teaching assistants through the REACH Fellows Program.
