The Knox-Galesburg Symphony, Bruce Polay, artistic director and conductor, announces its 2009 - 2010 season. The subscription season consists of five concerts in the Orpheum Theatre, with four non-subscription events, including a chamber music concert and a pops concert. Since its founding by Knox College and the Galesburg community in 1951, the Knox-Galesburg Symphony has received local, state and nation honors, including numerous recognitions from the Illinois Council of Orchestras. Artistic director/conductor Bruce Polay, professor and chair of music at Knox College, has received the ICO Cultural Leadership Award, Programming Award, and two Conductor of the Year Awards. The symphony has won three Illinois Orchestra of the Year Awards, most recently in 2008, while executive director Pearl Strickland received two General Manager of the Year Awards and a Community Relations Award. ICO Meritorious Awards have been presented to concert sponsors Knox College, Wells Fargo Bank, and NAEIR.
