Knox College students from all across the globe will spotlight diverse food, culture, and entertainment as part of the 39th annual International Fair. The theme for this year's I-Fair is "Street Culture: Walk. Explore. Experience."

The traditional cultural showcase, booths, and international buffet will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2020, on the Knox campus. The Saturday events, which are open to the public, include:

Booths Fair

12:00 to 1:30 p.m.
Ford Center for the Fine Arts lobby

Fun and educational, the cultural exhibits are organized by Knox students and student organizations. Admission is free.

Flag Parade & Cultural Showcase

1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Ford Center for the Fine Arts, Kresge Recital Hall

Students will enter Kresge Recital Hall carrying flags that represent the student body at Knox. Following the flag parade, performances will include songs, dances, poetry readings, and more from cultures around the world. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Food Fair

5 to 8 p.m.
Seymour Union

Foods from different countries and cultures are prepared and served by students. Price is $9 (free for kids 5 and under). Knox students with a meal plan can use a meal swipe. After paying, everyone will receive a wristband, which is required for entrance to the Food Fair.

Wristbands to the Food Fair will be on sale (cash only) at the International Club table during the Booths Fair, during intermission of the Cultural Showcase, and at the door of the Food Fair.

Additional International Week Events:

A series of events for students will take place on campus throughout the week leading up to I-Fair on January 25. These include:

Monday, January 20—Traditional Outfit Day

Students will wear clothing that demonstrates their cultural identity throughout the day and gather for photos from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall.

Tuesday, January 21—Vietnamese Crafts & Karaoke

Vietnamese Club will be hosting in Taylor Lounge from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Join them for a fun evening of crafts and singing! 

Wednesday, January 22—World Hijab Day Informational Session

In conjunction with World Hijab Day on February 1, 2020, Islamic Club invites non-hijabi Muslim and non-Muslim women to experience wearing a hijab. Islamic Club will hold an information session about World Hijab Day on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Ferris Lounge. Hijabs will be provided and how to wear a hijab will also be taught. All are welcome to attend the information session. Students will be wearing the hijabs on January 23.

Friday, January 24—Onam Celebration

Onam is an annual harvest festival in the state of Kerala in India. It falls on the 22nd Nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam. According to legend, the festival is celebrated to commemorate King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam. Join aaina to make a "pookalam" (colorful arrangement of colors and flowers on the floor) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Ferris Lounge.
