Martin Luther King Day Convocation 2014

Knox College will present its annual Martin Luther King Day Convocation at 11 a.m., Monday, January 20, in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The convocation is free and open to the public.

Konrad Hamilton, associate professor of history and chair of the program in American Studies, will give the convocation address. The convocation will be moderated by Magali Roy-Fequiere, associate professor and chair of Gender and Women's Studies. Laura Lane, professor of music, will conduct the Knox College Choir.

King, a civil rights leader, minister and president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was assassinated in 1968. The national holiday in his honor is celebrated on the third Monday in January.

A member of the Knox faculty since 1995, Hamilton earned his doctorate in history at Stanford University, where he worked on the team of scholars who edited The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Also on Monday, Knox will host an open house for high school students and their families. Information about the open house is available from the Knox College Admission Office, 309-341-7100 or via e-mail to admission@knox.edu.
