Reigning Conference USA Coach of the Year and 1989 Knox Graduate Todd Monken has resigned his post as head football coach at Southern Mississippi to accept as job as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Read more about Monken's new position at ESPN.com.
Monken returns to the NFL to team up with newly appointed head coach Dirk Koetter. The two worked together in Monken's previous NFL stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2007-10.
Monken's Southern Miss teams improved every year and this year returned to a bowl game for the first time since 2011. In his third season at the helm, Monken improved the Golden Eagles' win total by six from 2014. The team set single-season school records in completions (312), passing yards (4,263), total offensive yards (6,758), touchdowns (67), and points (528). After a three-year absence, the Golden Eagles returned to the C-USA Championship game by winning the West Division with a 7-1 league record. Southern Miss won six straight games to finish the regular season with a 9-4 overall record.
