Nationwide Test of Emergency Alert System

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, the Federal Emergency Mangement Agency will conduct a nation-wide test of the Emergency Alert System. This test will include public messages on all radio and television stations, as well as local, cable, and satellite television stations. The test will begin at approximately 1:00 pm (Central Daylight Time) and last for approximately 3-4 minutes. 

The test will help all Emergency Alert partners and participants determine the reliability of the system, should it be needed in a real emergency situation.

In addtion, the test serves a reminder that everyone should prepare for and stay informed about what to do in a real emergency. Everyone is encouraged to establish an emergency plan for themselves, their families, and their businesses. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to develop a plan and prepare an emergency preparedness kit. More information about developing a plan and a kit is available at www.Ready.gov.
