Author Peter Orner will give a talk about his new book on illegal immigrants working in the United States, "Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives," at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 12, in the Bookfellow Room, Seymour Library, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The talk is free and open to the public.
The book, edited by Orner, is a collection of narratives from undocumented workers. It includes an interview conducted in Galesburg by two members of the Knox College faculty. The book is published by McSweeney's, as part of its Voice of Witness Series.
Orner, who previously spoke at Knox in 2006, has won the Rome Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Goldberg Prize from the Foundation of Jewish Culture, the Pushcart Prize and a 2006 Guggenheim fellowship. One of his stories was selected for the anthology "Best American Short Stories of 2001." His prior works include a collection, "Esther Stories," and a novel, "The Second Coming of Mavala Shikongo."
