Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar's Schedule
Doug McAdam, Phi Beta Kappa visiting scholar, will participate in several events while at Knox College on April 19-20.
A collection of his books is on display in Seymour Library, and an online compilation of key selected articles is available at http://knox.libguides.com/McAdam. A selection of his books is available for purchase in the Knox Bookstore.
Professor McAdam will deliver a public lecture on April 19. Other activities are for members of the Knox community only. A student reading group is being organized to read and discuss his best-known work, Freedom Summer. The reading group will meet with McAdam during his visit. Monday, April 19
- Brown Bag lunch and talk on "Obama's Victory: A Unique Event or a Decisive Shift in American Politics?" Noon. Ferris Lounge, Seymour Union. Open to the Knox community.
- Free public lecture, "Burning Down the House: Explaining Geographic Variation in Arson Attacks on Black Churches, 1996-2001." 7:30 p.m. Hermann R. Muelder Reading Room, Seymour Library.
Tuesday, April 20
- Informal lunch with students. 11:45 a.m. Gale Room, Seymour Union.
- Meet with "Institutions of Childhood" class and other interested students to talk about youth activism. 1 p.m. George Davis Hall 303. Knox students only. Interested students should contact Professor Amy Singer at asinger@knox.edu.
- Informal reception and conversation for faculty and staff, hosted by Department of Anthropology and Sociology. 4 p.m. Alumni Room, Old Main.
