Knox College will host Ashlee Mack and guest artist David Maki in a concert of new and recent music for two pianos and piano duet. The concert will take place at 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 5 in Kresge Recital. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program will feature six pieces selected by Mack and Maki from a national call for scores, which yielded more than sixty submissions. Three of the pieces are for piano duo and three are for piano duet. Also included in the program is Three Preludes by David Maki. Other composers featured on the program include John Gibson, Jono Kornfeld, Lawrence Moss, James Romig, and Amy Williams.
Ashlee Mack is a pianist specializing in contemporary music and has performed with organizations such as the Society for Chromatic Art, Vox Novus, and the Iowa Composers Forum. She has presented recitals throughout the United States, as well as in Germany and Italy. She currently is on faculty at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.
David Maki is an assistant professor of music theory and composition at NIU. He earned a Bachelor of Music in music composition from NIU, where he also studied piano with Donald Walker. Maki holds a M.A. in composition from the University of Iowa, and a D.M.A. in composition from the University of Michigan, where he studied piano with Logan Skelton. He has performed with ensembles such as the University of Iowa Center For New Music, Brave New Works, Prime Directive and, most recently, Due East.
