Wilbur F. Pillsbury, Post Professor Emeritus of Economics at Knox College, was recently inducted into the Founders Circle by Carl Sandburg College. The award is given in honor of service to Carl Sandburg College.
Pillsbury was recognized for his service during the 1960s on a citizen's committee that explored formation of a community college, which was later named Carl Sandburg College. Today, CSC enrolls more than 4,000 students from a ten-county region in west-central Illinois.
A member of the Knox College faculty from 1949 until his retirement in 1990, Pillsbury also served as Knox's dean of students from 1953 to 1968. Pillsbury taught economics and business administration, and pioneered the use of computers to teach accounting.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 44 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
