Poetry Reading, Jan. 19

Poets Nancy Eimers and William Olsen will read from their own works at 4 p.m., Friday, January 19, in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The reading is free and open to the public.

Eimers teaches creative writing at Western Michigan University. She has published three collections of poetry, "A Grammar to Waking," "No Moon," and "Destroying Angel." She received a "Discovery" Award from The Nation magazine, two National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowships, and a Whiting Writers Award. Her work has appeared in "The Extraordinary Tide: New Poetry By American Women," "Best American Poetry of 1996," "Poets of the New Century," "The New Bread Loaf Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry," Paris Review, TriQuarterly, Field and Poetry Northwest.

Olsen teaches at Western Michigan University and in the master's program at Vermont College. He is the author of three collections of poetry, "The Hand of God and a Few Bright Flowers," "Vision of a Storm Cloud," and "Trouble Lights." Olsen also coedited the poetry collection "Planet on the Table: Poets on the Reading Life." His poems and essays have appeared in The New Republic, Chicago Review, Paris Review, Southern Review, TriQuarterly, "New American Poets of the Nineties," "The New Breadloaf Anthology of Contemporary Poetry," and "Poets of the New Century." Olsen has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, NEA Creative Writing Fellowship, "Discovery" Award from The Nation magazine, Texas Institute of Arts Award, Breadloaf Fellowship, Pushcart Prize and two Academy of American Poets awards.

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 46 states and 50 nations. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
