Michael Renov, an expert in documentary filmmaking, will give a talk at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The talk is free and open to the public.
Renov, professor of critical studies at the University of Southern California, is co-founder of "Visible Evidence," an annual, international conference on documentary studies, and an editor of the Visible Evidence book series for the University of Minnesota Press. He is the author of "Hollywood's Wartime Woman: Representation and Ideology," editor of "Theorizing Documentary," and co-editor of "Resolutions: Contemporary Video Practices" and "Collecting Visible Evidence."
Renov also helped create two interactive projects, "L.A. Link," which used video to bring together youths from different backgrounds; and "Eye & Thou: Jewish Autobiography in Film and Video," which featured screenings of Jewish autobiographical films and on-stage dialogues between filmmakers and scholars.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 44 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
