Renowned Classicist Stanley Lombardo Visits Knox

Stanley Lombardo, an internationally acclaimed translator of ancient and medieval poetry.

Stanley Lombardo, an internationally acclaimed translator of ancient and medieval poetry, met with Knox College students and read from his translations of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey.

Lombardo, professor of classics at the University of Kansas, performed his readings at Knox on November 1 and also got acquainted with students in a more informal setting at the home of Knox Classics Professors Brenda and Stephen Fineberg.

Lombardo is known for his plain, direct translations of such ancient works as Dante's Divine Comedy, Virgil's Aeneid, and Homer's Iliad and Odyssey.

His appearance at Knox was supported by the Greig Post Adventure in Arts Fund, the English Department Fellowes Fund, the Dennis Donham Fund in History, the Knox Classics Club, and the Department of Classics.
