Knox College presents a film festival, ?Family Dynamics and Body Politics: Women Directors of the Spanish-Speaking World,? Friday through Sunday, October 24, 25 and 26, at the Orpheum Theatre, 57 S. Kellogg, Galesburg, Illinois. The festival features six films in Spanish with English subtitles. The films carry the equivalent of the "R" rating under the MPAA rating system used in the United States. The films are free and open to the public.
Jan Lisa Huttner, a film critic in Chicago and founder of Women in the Audience Supporting Women Now, will speak at the festival's opening night.
"Each film portrays female protagonists who must face both physical and family issues," said Robin Ragan, associate professor of Spanish at Knox, who arranged the festival. "The films take objectionable social norms such as 'fat,' 'transgender,' 'abused,' and 'dying' and link them to the problem of creating an identity."
