Students Gain Nonprofit Experience Through Hirsch-Zucker Fund
Knox College students have been benefiting from a wide range of experiences -- including at a community garden in California, a theatre in Connecticut, and a faith-based organization in India -- thanks to the Hirsch-Zucker Endowed Fund for Non-Profit Internships.
The Hirsch-Zucker Endowed Fund for Non-Profit Internships provides financial assistance for the living, travel, and daily expenses of students who are participating in internships with non-profit organizations.
Students selected to receive support from the fund during the summer of 2015 are:
- Yaoska Mayorga ‘17, a Spanish major, who is interning with Garden School Foundation and working in a community garden for low-income elementary students in Los Angeles, California.
- Holden Meier ‘16, a creative writing major, who is a literary intern with the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center in Connecticut.
- Kalyani Sonarikar ‘17, a neuroscience major, who is observing medical practices and teaching English in India as an intern with Yuva for Sewa, a Hindu faith-based non-profit organization.
- Almira Karajic '17, an anthropology-sociology major, who is a tutor counselor intern with NMH Upward Bound in Massachusetts.
- Monica Weller ‘18, who is interning with Denver Sister Cities in Denver, Colorado, as a cultural ambassador.
