Swim Teams Win Scholar All America Awards

Women's and men's teams both honored by College Swimming Coaches Association of America

Women's and men's swimming teams at Knox College win recognition for academic performance from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

For the third time in four years, both women's and men's swimming teams at Knox College have received Team Scholar All America Awards from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The awards recognize grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher.

The Prairie Fire women's team was honored by CSCAA for achieving a grade-point-average of 3.21 in fall term 2013. The men's team had a 3.20 grade-point-average.

Knox men's and women's swim teams both won Team Scholar All America Awards in 2010-11. Both teams won awards again in 2011-12.

"These students work incredibly hard in the pool, and it is rewarding to see them also working hard and performing well in the classroom," said Jonathan Powers, head swimming coach and assistant professor and chair of economics.

A total of 120 women's teams and 76 men's teams in NCAA Division III received Fall 2013 CSCAA Team Scholar All America Awards, which are sponsored by Nike. NCAA Division III includes some 170,000 varsity athletes at more than 400 colleges and universities.
