The award-winning Unified Jazz Ensemble will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 17, in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Unified Jazz Ensemble, which fuses traditional and modern jazz styles, was awarded a 2010 Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant. The group has recorded eight CDs.
The quartet features Mike Noonan on vibraphone and trombone, John Pineda on bass, Dominic Smith on drums, and Tim Stanley on trumpet. Noonan is a two-time recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, and Stanley is currently a member of the internationally acclaimed U.S. Navy "Commodores" Jazz Ensemble, and the Grammy-winning Latin jazz ensemble, Afro-Bop Alliance.
The concert is sponsored by the Knox College Music Department.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 48 states and 51 countries. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
