Welcome President Amott

Knox College has begun a new chapter in its nearly 175 year history. On July 1, 2011, Dr. Teresa L. Amott began her tenure as Knox's 19th president and the first female president. Dr. Amott was introduced to the Knox campus on February 14, 2011, just two days after having been unanimously elected to the post by the Knox College Board of Trustees. Dr. Amott succeeded Roger L. Taylor '63, who served as Knox's president since 2001 and retired on June 30, 2011.

During her introduction to the campus, she met faculty and staff at a reception (above) and talked with students at lunch in the Hard Knox Cafe (below).

Dr. Amott followed a road familiar to Knox -- she traveled to west central Illinois from upstate New York, just as the Reverend George Washington Gale and the other Knox and Galesburg founders did in 1836.

Before being named the 19th president of Knox College, Dr. Amott spent six years as provost and dean of the faculty at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) in Geneva, New York. Prior to joining HWS, she was vice provost at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, from 2000-2005. She has held academic appointments at Bucknell University, Harvard University, University of Massachusetts - Boston and Amherst, and Wellesley College.

In Geneva, Dr. Amott was an enthusiastic community volunteer and helped develop community-based research projects that enhanced the Geneva, New York, area.
