Douglas Wilson, co-director of the Lincoln Studies Center at Knox College, will give a talk and sign copies of his new book on Abraham Lincoln, at 4 p.m., Friday, January 5, in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The talk is free and open to the public.
Wilson's book, "Lincoln's Sword: The Presidency and the Power of Words," has been acclaimed for its ground-breaking, detailed study of how Lincoln honed his writing and speaking as president.
Lincoln scholar David Herbert Donald has called the book "the first close scholarly study of Lincoln's writing," while historian Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote that Wilson has "brilliantly revealed... the craft of Lincoln's writing."
"Lincoln's Sword: The Presidency and the Power of Words" is Wilson's fourth book on Lincoln. Wilson and Rodney Davis are co-directors of the Lincoln Studies Center at Knox. Together, they have edited several other books on Lincoln and are currently working on a new edition of the texts of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
The lecture is sponsored by the Knox College Caxton Club.
