With fall athletes in their residence halls and out on the practice fields, New Student Orientation is right around the corner! Here are some reminders and helpful tips to make your transition to campus as seamless as possible:
Upcoming move-in dates
*International students, and TRiO students: you will receive detailed arrival information from our international student services or TRiO office. Contact their office directly with questions about your move-in and arrival.
Arrival
New students (both residential and commuter) will first check-in at the Ford Center for Fine Arts (CFA) building (500 S. Prairie Street) to pick-up your name tag, keys, and complete arrival paperwork. Orientation leaders will be directing traffic as you arrive. If you are traveling from afar, don’t forget to book a hotel the night before your move-in. Several local hotels offer a Knox College rate if you call them directly.
Welcome Hub & Campus Employment
Visit the Welcome Hub at check-in to complete any remaining administrative tasks with essential campus offices, including Student Employment, Health Services, Financial Services, vehicle and bike registration, and more. Crucially, be sure to have your social security card, passport, or birth certificate available at check-in if you plan to work on campus (see our recent email).
Knox ID
You’ll see on the schedule that Dining Services will be open from 9am-2pm for new students to receive a Knox ID. A long line often forms here on move-in day. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to eat and get around campus without your ID during orientation, and Dining Services is open most weekdays from 8-4:30. So, if there’s a line, feel free to come back later in the day or even Wednesday. We won’t let you starve! 🙂
Move-In
After check-in, proceed to your residence hall, where current student leaders will be available to provide directions to your room and assist you in getting your belongings into your room. Please move your vehicle to an available parking lot when you are finished dropping off your belongings so others can get as close to their residence hall as possible to unload their vehicle.
Emotional Goodbyes
After the Welcome at 3:30 on Tuesday, September 9th, it will be time to say goodbye to your family. But invite them to come back and visit for Homecoming & Family Weekend, Oct 9-12!
Welcome to Knox Guidebook App
While the new student orientation page provides a brief overview and at-a-glance schedule, students and parents should download the Guidebook app to see the full, detailed schedule, plan their individual schedule, get detailed, current information about each activity, see our recommended packing list (do’s and dont’s), peruse the week’s schedule, meet your Orientation Leader and Resident Assistant, create a personalized orientation week schedule, get IT help, and more!

Coming Up Next
Next week, we’ll explain a few more Knox traditions!
See you down the trail!
