Knox College is launching KnoxReads, an online book discussion, for Robin Wright's Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion across the Islamic World.
In anticipation of Wright's February 28 visit to the Knox campus, Knox's faculty experts on the Middle East will post to the KnoxReads blog, discussing Rock the Casbah and other relevant topics.
The participating faculty members are Roy Andersen, Charles W. and Arvilla S. Timme Professor of Economics; Karen Kampwirth '86, professor of political science; Michael Schneider, professor of history and director of the Eleanor Stellyes Center for Global Studies; Robert Seibert '63, Robert W. Murphy Professor of Political Science, and Emre Sencer, assistant professor of history.
They will begin posting to the blog on February 1.
Knox College alumni and friends are encouraged to read the book and engage in the discussion on the KnoxReads blog. Rock the Casbah may be ordered from the Knox College Bookstore.

A longtime international correspondent, Wright has reported from more than 140 countries and written for numerous publications, including The Washington Post, the Sunday Times of London, The New Yorker, TIME, and Foreign Affairs. She has worked in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Her other books include Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East, The Last Great Revolution: Turmoil and Transformation in Iran, and Sacred Rage: The Wrath of Militant Islam.
Hear Robin Wright Speak
Journalist, author, and foreign policy analyst Robin Wright will present a lecture, "Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion across the Islamic World," at 7:30 p.m. February 28 on the Knox College campus. The event will be in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts.
She will look at the struggle within the Muslim world, where a growing movement defies and challenged extremism, at the inaugural Stellyes Distinguished Lecture in Global Affairs. After the lecture, she will be available to sign books.
Anyone who cannot attend the lecture in person may view it live on the Knox Livestream Channel.
Now a U.S. Institute of Peace Senior Fellow and Woodrow Wilson International Center Distinguished Scholar, Wright previously has been a fellow at the Brookings Institution and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She also was a fellow at Duke University, Stanford University, Yale University, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the University of Southern California.
She has received many awards for her work, including the U.N. Correspondents Gold Medal, the National Magazine Award, and the Overseas Press Club Award for "best reporting in any medium requiring exceptional courage and initiative." In 2004, the American Academy of Diplomacy selected her as the journalist of the year.
Wright's appearance at Knox College is sponsored by the Eleanor Stellyes Center for Global Studies, which brings guest speakers from around the world to the Knox campus. The event is one of several special lectures and events taking place this year in honor of Knox College's 175th anniversary.
