A student in the Knox College computer science course Computing, Technology and Society this fall checks the Lego Mindstorm robot that he and his teammate assembled for the final class project. The survey course is designed for students who are not planning to major in computer science, and the robotics component provides a challenging real-world experience in programming technology, explains professor John Dooley. "This is what your lie looks like!" one student exclaimed, as lab partners watch a computer display of data from a student, at right, whose finger is hooked up to a skin galvanometer -- a.k.a. a "lie detector." Student lab assistant Michael Kolbeck (standing at rear) explained that the lab is designed to build experience with real-world data gathering into intro-level psychology courses.
